A daughter’s pregnancy surprise for her father went viral on TikTok

A tiny baby onesie brought one father to tears in a viral pregnancy announcement.
In a moment that has since been viewed by millions on TikTok, Kaylyn Medrano surprised her dad, Flawer, with the news that she was not only expecting a baby but naming her daughter after him.
“This was when I was pregnant in 2021,” Kaylyn tells PEOPLE. “I kind of had the name already picked out, and I always knew in my head that I was going to name my daughter after my dad.”
For years, Kaylyn had made it a tradition to buy her father a Mother’s Day gift — a playful nod to his long-running joke that he “gave birth” to her. But in 2021, that tradition took a unique turn when she handed him a gift bag holding a onesie with her daughter’s name printed across the front.
Flawer says the moment caught him completely off guard. “I wasn’t expecting that,” he tells PEOPLE. “I was expecting a little chocolate and stuff like that, but to see an extension of my name and my legacy, that hit me in the heart.”
The TikTok clip, captioned “papas girl 4 ever,” shows his joy in real time as he first beams at the pregnancy news, then bursts into tears when he realizes the onesie carries his name.
Kaylyn admits she had some nerves before the reveal. “I didn’t expect his reaction to be that reaction,” she says. “I thought he would just be like, ‘Oh, thanks so much,’ but it was completely different than what I thought it was going to be.”

For her, naming her daughter after her dad felt like the most natural way to honor the man she’s always adored. “I was always daddy’s little girl my whole life,” Kaylyn says with a smile. “I can’t even tell you how good my dad is — it would take all day.”
The gesture only deepened the closeness they already shared. “We already had a good relationship, but I think it definitely brought us closer,” Kaylyn says. “Now you can see, my dad and my daughter are best friends, and that’s all I could have hoped for.”
For Flawer, the moment carried meaning far beyond the surface. “To see my name going through my granddaughter, that was amazing,” he explains. “All the effort we made, starting from my father coming into this country, for me to follow, and then to see my family growing — it’s a blessing.”
Though the reveal was deeply personal, Kaylyn eventually decided to share it publicly. She waited until she found a TikTok sound that matched the emotion of the moment, then paired the two together. The video, which shows Flawer excitedly opening the gift before he gets emotional, is set to Carla Morrison’s “Valentina.”
“I was looking at the trends and I was like, wow, these are really sweet stories,” she tells PEOPLE. “That video has always been one of my favorites because it’s so real, and I just knew I had the perfect video for the sound.”
Once she posted it, the response was immediate. “I didn’t know I was going to get that kind of response, but I hoped people might call their dad or hug their dad a little extra after seeing it,” Kaylyn says.
Her father, meanwhile, admits he doesn’t fully understand the mechanics of social media. “My daughter is the one that shows me all the time — ‘Papi, you do it like this, papi, you do it like that,’ ” he says with a laugh. “I didn’t even know I was on TikTok, but I see the excitement in her, and it makes me happy.”
What touched him most, though, was how strangers connected with his raw emotion. “Some people were asking about me in the comments, and I was like, what did I do?” Flawer recalls. “I just showed the emotion that any father that has love for his daughter will show — that love is pure, and that’s what counts.”
Kaylyn says the messages from viewers who had lost their own fathers resonated especially deeply. “Right now, the ones I resonate with most are people commenting that they lost their dads and wish they had moments like this,” she shares. “It just makes me feel good that I could give them that little glimpse.”
Her grandfather had passed away not long before she shared the video, which made the reaction even more meaningful. “My grandfather passed away not too long ago,” she adds. “So sharing that video actually gave me comfort too, like I was keeping part of him alive, along with celebrating my dad.”

For Flawer, words often fail when he tries to describe what that surprise meant, but his gratitude is unwavering. “That video says it all,” he says. “That moment was a blessing from God.”
Even now, reflecting on the onesie brings him back to tears. “Just thinking, wow, it’s my bloodline going on, you know,” he says. “My granddaughter is one of my blessings, coming from my daughter who is everything to me.”

“Love your siblings, love your daughters,” he insists. “Because whatever you do, your daughters will pay for it — if you’re a bad guy, your daughter will pay, and if you’re a good guy, they will treat your daughter better.”
Kaylyn echoes her father’s wisdom with her own message. “Give your people their flowers while you can,” she says. “That’s what this was about for me, showing love while we still have the chance.”
