There isn’t a millennial woman alive who doesn’t owe some of her feminism to the Spice Girls. Those British baddies taught young girls that we aren’t in competition with each other, but that with our powers combined, we can do anything—and do it while looking stylish. Their positive message of girlhood has transcended decades, and they aren’t exactly hanging up their microphones just yet.
At least Sporty Spice, aka Mel C., 51, certainly isn’t. The singer is currently working on her ninth solo studio album and recently debuted some new music. True to her former moniker, Mel C. dropped a track called Sweat, which plays like an epic fitness anthem set to an electro-pop beat that’s bound to get anyone moving. Its debut performance at Hoopla Malta only solidified that energy.
Onstage, Mel C. showed off her impressive range and an incredibly strong, toned physique, sending fans into a flurry of praise.
“She’s definitely still Sporty Spice,” joked one fan.
“She has always been in my top 3! Just a super cool person, smile is infectious and the talent,” mused another.
“Is it just me or does she look better than ever?! Stunning,” added another.
Fans also noted that the track samples Diana Ross’ Work That Body, with both songs featuring the iconic workout-style chant: “Reach 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8…”
Mel C.’s Impressive Career
Since her Spice Girls days, Mel C. has built an accomplished career all her own. She’s had enduring solo hits like I Turn to You, collaborated with artists including Bryan Adams, and penned a memoir reflecting on her stellar journey. On top of that, she’s carved out a career as a DJ and hopes fans will embrace her ninth album with the same fervor.
The album, she says, is already complete and “ready to go.”
“The last few albums, I’ve been leaning more towards electronic pop music… And with this one, I really wanted to embrace that more, with dance music and all the DJing I’ve been doing,” she recently told the Mirror.
Her fitness goals remain a major priority too. Speaking at the London launch of Ben Forster’s new album Musical’s Greatest Hits, she told the crowd:
“Exercise is so important to me. I want to be active and dance and perform and enjoy myself on stage for as long as possible. My sister wants us to do [fitness competition] Hyrox together but I need time to train properly. I’ve honestly been busier than I’ve ever been before this summer. It’s been non-stop and hopefully next year will be even busier. I’d love to do it—but I’d want to be properly prepared physically.”

While all of this may put a Spices Girls reunion tour on hold, it is promising the Mel C. will be doing a host of live performances shortly to accompany her new album news.
