Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have split up, and it looks like the country music star is really ready to move on.
Don’t believe it?
Well, fans at a recent show got a big-time hint when Urban performed “The Fighter,” a song that he has said previously was inspired by Kidman. But when he got to a lyric that previously referenced the actress, he switched things up in a big way.
The song’s original lyrics read, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter,” but Urban instead sang, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”
According to Billboard.com, Maggie is 25-year-old rising country music star Maggie Baugh, who was playing guitar next to Urban during the show.
She shared the clip on her Instagram on Sept. 27 and wrote, “Did he just say that.”
Whiskey Riff reported that fans jumped in with comments that showed that were not happy by the switch-up.
“Wow, that song was made for Nicole,” one person wrote per the outlet. “For him to do that tells us what he’s really all about. That’s just disgusting.”
“It’s so trash to do this to a song inspired by his wife,” another wrote. “It’s the ultimate ick.”
And there were plenty more comments like that.
Kidman, 58, filed for divorce from Urban, 57, this week citing “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”
The two had been together for 19 years and share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Taste of Country noted that TMZ first reported that the news, citing a source who said they have been split up since the start of the summer. The Daily Mail said that Urban initiated it all because he was seeing little of Kidman do to her busy filming schedule.
People Magazine reported that Kidman had been trying to save the marriage.
