“So You Think You Can Dance” winner Joshua Allen passed away earlier this week. He was 36.
A family member told TMZ that he was hit by a train and died in the hospital near his Texas home on Tuesday, Sept. 30. The Fort Worth Police Department in Texas confirmed to the outlet that it received a call about a person who was hit by a train. The investigation is ongoing.
Allen’s close friend and film director and choreographer, Emmanuel Hurd, described Allen as “a very honest, real person” to the outlet. He also paid tribute to Allen on Instagram.
“I can’t wrap my head around this…Josh…my brotha. There are no words. You were the life of the party,“ Hurd wrote in a post on Tuesday. ”You were Batman. Champion. One of the realest people I ever met. Kept it a stack every time and would make it right if you fell short. A real King. This one hurts deep. I know you’re with Stephen now and that brings me comfort. I love you bro. IVEVER.”
For context, Hurd was referring to Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the late DJ and co-executive producer of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” who died by suicide in 2022.
Allen rose to fame after winning Season 4 of “So You Think You Can Dance,” beating out Boss, who came in second place.
In addition to winning the Fox dance competition series in 2008, he appeared as a dancer in “Step Up 3D” in 2010 and the remake of “Footloose” in 2011. Allen also appeared in a 2011 episode of “American Horror Story.”
His final Instagram post came in July as he honored the late “Cosby Show” actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who died at age 54 after drowning while on a family vacation in Costa Rica. “Fly high King,” Allen wrote alongside a photo of him and Warner.
