HAMMOND — Events surrounding lectures and music are scheduled during the upcoming week of the 40th season of Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s annual fall festival of the arts, humanities and social sciences.

First up on Oct. 8, at 11 a.m., the History and Political Science Department will present the next Then and Now lecture in the series. Scheduled in the Student Union Theatre, the lecture, titled “Leading Innovation at the Louisiana State Museum,” will be given by Cody Scallions.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Louisiana State Museums, Scallions will discuss the Louisiana State Museums’ mission to preserve and celebrate Louisiana’s diverse history and culture. He brings extensive leadership and project management experience to the oversight of 10 Louisiana museums, along with a commitment to educational outreach and special initiatives that enable him to shape and develop engaging cultural programs and exhibitions for visitors across the world.

The Southeastern Chamber Orchestra will present a concert titled “Timeless Vivaldi” on Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. Scheduled in Pottle Auditorium, the concert is directed by Victor Correa-Cruz and is free and open to the public.

The Hammond Regional Arts Center is hosting an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 10, from 5 until 8 p.m. for the Hammond Art Guild’s 63rd Annual Judged Exhibition. Titled “Beauty in the Bayou” by Marceo Brim, the exhibition will remain open through Nov. 6. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 12 until 6 p.m.

Fanfare events are free, unless otherwise noted. For more information, contact the Columbia/Fanfare office at 985-549-2999.
