Elizabeth Taylor is one name that’s practically synonymous with “showgirl,” and now the late actor can be immortalized as one in song on track two of Swift’s latest album.
The late actor’s former personal assistant Tim Mendelson told USA Today that Taylor’s estate couldn’t be more thrilled that she’s being name-dropped in Swift’s latest release.
“I think she would’ve loved Taylor Swift,” Mendelson said. “I think they could have been friends.”
Mendelson, who is a co-trustee of Taylor’s estate, said he was excited for a new audience to discover Taylor’s history not only as a starlet, but also as an activist and a humanitarian. Taylor might be known in Hollywood for Oscar-worthy roles in films such as “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” but to many she’s remembered for her commitment to speaking out about the HIV/AIDS crisis following the death of her friend Rock Hudson.
Mendelson described Swift’s song as “huge tribute” to Taylor.
House of Taylor released a crewneck sweater in a similar orange shade that Swift is using to promote “The Life of Showgirl.” A share of the proceeds from the sales will go to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
