(FOX40.COM) — It’s officially showtime in Sacramento! Thursday marked the first day of Aftershock. It’s the West Coast’s largest rock, punk and metal festival.
FOX40 was there all day long and after observing the crowds, meeting fans and hearing the music blasting, it’s clear the event is every music lover’s dream. Jamie Ross was there to jam out to her favorite musicians.
“I grew up with my CD player, listening to many of these bands,” Ross said. “So they all, many of them hold a very dear place in my heart. But I came here to rock out live!”
Around 160,000 people are expected to show out at Discovery Park throughout the weekend. The event consists of four days of famous acts from all across the country. The lineup boasted artists like Bowling for Soup and Blink 182 — there are more than 115 bands slated to rock out across four different stages. It’s Garrett Young’s 10th year attending the festival. He told FOX40 all about his love and dedication for the event.
“Every year we meet new people from all different walks of life, you know?” Young said. “And that’s what I really like about it too, is it brings all kinds of different people together. And I meet new friends. I actually got somebody in there that I met last year that’s holding down a spot for me on the stage.”
FOX40 spoke with fans who lined up for the festival Thursday morning as soon as gates opened. While the weather evolved throughout the day, the festival definitely kicked off with a wet start.
“I think it adds to the experience,” Ross said. “It is going to be a mudbath in there!”
Of course, Thursday was just the beginning.
“There’s this electricity in the air and… a lot of anticipation,” Steve Ritter said. He’s been drumming since he was 18 years old and has a true passion for rock. “It’s a lot of excitement.”
Last year was Ritter’s first aftershock experience and — according to the music enthusiast — it was nowhere near his last.
“I still get chills from that show,” Ritter said. “Yeah, that’s why I’m here this year, because of my experience last year. And I will come every year from now on.”
FOX40 asked if he add anything else to add.
“Just… Aftershock!!!!!!!!!!” the fan screamed with joy.
The festival goes through Sunday with different groups scheduled to perform each day.
There is something extra special for Sacramento natives — the metal band “Deftones” is set to play Friday night — it’s a hometown show for the Sacramento-formed group.
