‘Smashing Machine’ Grapples $850K & ‘Avatar: Way Of Water’ Reissue $350K In Previews Before Taylor Swift Storm Begins – Box Office

Before Taylor Swift takes all the air out of the box office conversation, this weekend’s wide releases were given a break on Thursday night, meaning they didn’t have to face off with The Official Release Party of a Showgirl which technically starts today.

Smashing Machine at 3,345 locations saw $850K from both previews yesterday as well as fan Imax screenings the week prior. Disney isn’t reporting previews on its re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water, which sources say are around $350K.

While Taylor Swift will reign supreme with north of $30M+, Smashing Machine is unfortunately bound to hit the mat with $9M-$12M take, while Avatar 2 is looking at low single digits; that movie’s re-release more of a marketing stunt for Avatar: Way of Water in December since the sequel is featuring a sneak peek at the new movie. Presales for Avatar: Way of Water is north of $600K.
