Prince William’s been putting pressure on King Charles to banish his disgraced brother Prince Andrew from the royal family once and for all, and it looks like Wills has finally gotten his way.
According to a courtier who spoke to Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop, “It was an ultimatum: Andrew goes, or the monarchy does. Andrew will never appear alongside William again. Not at Christmas, not at Easter, not ever.”
Another senior aide said, “The decision makes one thing crystal clear, Charles wears the crown, but William has the power,” while yet another noted “Andrew is finished. And William has just shown the world who’s really in charge.”
This means Andrew won’t be invited to spend Christmas with the royals in Sandringham, which sources confirmed to The Times. One insider explained, “You can’t sack someone from being your brother. But this year, if the duke and duchess were both to be as honorable [as last year], it would be very much for the best and the family would not be disappointed, not least to avoid the King having to make any more difficult decisions.”
A friend added, “The King is not of the mind to banish someone worshipping at church or attending family occasions like a funeral. But he would hope they would find a more discreet way of attending these events. In the Duke of York’s case, he seems to relish the prospect of not being low-key about it.”
