This is less movie review and more journal, I guess. But that’s because “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” is more singalong/interview than it is a movie, although it can be classified as a documentary.

I sleep late because of my work schedule. So the “The Life of a Showgirl,” Taylor Swift’s new album, already had been released for several hours before I woke up.
Frantically, I ran around the house with my earbuds in, trying to avoid interactions with my poor husband and our attention-seeking bunny. Right from the get-go, the songs “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Elizabeth Taylor” and “Opalite” really appealed to me, but I didn’t have time to focus on the rest of the tunes.
By the time I got to the 11 p.m. screening at Cinemark, Davenport, I knew enough about those first three songs to be able to sing along, at least after a fashion. I think there were only four other people in different parts of the auditorium, so I was pretty much in my own little bubble.
The songs play over loops of Swift dressed in various showgirl costumes from different eras (see what I did there?) The lyrics appear in huge letters on the screen for audience participation.
Before each song, Swift explains what it means and how she came to write it. She speaks directly to the audience a bit, a charming touch that makes the experience more personal.
The fan event includes scenes from the making of “The Fate of Ophelia” video that gives fans a glimpse at how vast this production was and how many people contributed to it.
The 89-minute experience went swiftly (sorry) and soon I stood up to leave. A young man who had been sitting toward the top of the auditorium came up to me, asked how I liked the movie, and said, “I’d like to give you a friendship bracelet.” And, to my astonishment, he did, and I’m wearing it right now.

Much of Swift’s music is catchy, relatable tunes about love and being nice. Swift’s music continues to bring fans together to create these random moments of joy.
I hope her show goes on for decades.
