Alan Sparhawk has shared a new song that is set to be featured on an upcoming benefit compilation, raising money for charities that support immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Sparhawk, best known for his work in Duluth’s Low, is one of 17 artists who have contributed work to the record, Passages: Artists in Solidarity with Immigrants, Refugees, and Asylum Seekers.

With the announcement, record label Western Vinyl has shared two tracks, including Sparhawk’s “No More Darkness,” which is the album’s opening track, and Benjamin Booker’s “A Place for Us.”

Others contributing new music to the record include Dirty Projectors, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Daniel Lopatin, and Lambchop.

Album sales will benefit a pair of Texas-based organizations, American Gateways and Casa Marianella. Both groups offer free or low-cost legal services, food, shelter, health care access, and other services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Organizers Emilie Rex and Rick Alverson asked contributors to write and record new music in a place that feels like home, according to an announcement.

“Home, as we know it, is under threat,” they said in a release, per Pitchfork. “When immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers exercise their human right to safe passage, they defend our ability to do so—and our right to be and feel at home.”

In addition to album sales, comedian and musician Tim Heidecker, who contributed a song to the album, will host a variety show and auction during his “Office Hours” call-in show on Dec. 4 to raise additional funds.

“Here is a song that came from the struggle to know what to say to someone who is having a hard time,” Sparhawk said in a statement.

“There are real things that we can do to lift each other out of suffering — sometimes it is tangible charity, like this compilation to raise funds and awareness for the plight of immigrants and those who have been displaced. Sometimes it is words of encouragement. It can also just be time spent with someone who needs help getting through the moment. Let’s do our best to turn up the light.”

Here’s the tracklist for Passages: Artists in Solidarity with Immigrants, Refugees, and Asylum Seekers, which will be released on vinyl and digitally on Dec. 5.
