This weekend, MrBeast uploaded a video, which he had scheduled back in 2015 to go live this year, addressing himself 10 years in the future.

In a separate video uploaded this weekend, the now 27-year-old filmed himself reacting to the video posted by his 17-year-old self. “I can’t believe how much has changed,” he wrote in the video’s caption.

Why It Matters

Today, MrBeast, whose real name is James “Jimmy” Donaldson, is one of the most popular content creators in the world, and currently has 443 million subscribers on YouTube. This year, Forbes named him the top content creator in the world, reporting earnings of $85 million.

The content that has catapulted MrBeast to fame is often centered around big budget, elaborate stunts and challenges, with videos like “Last To Leave The Circle Wins $500,000,” and “7 Days Stranded on an Island,” having amassed hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.

Beyond this, he is known for charitable acts. In August, he launched the #TeamWater fundraiser, which ultimately raised a total of $40,000,000 to help 2 million people have access to clean water for decades.

However, he is no stranger to controversy, with viewers recently raising safety concerns about his content, specifically a video where a man was trapped inside of a burning house, with the goal of winning $500,000. In response to criticism, he said, “I take safety more seriously than you could ever imagine.”

What To Know

The original video, ‘Hi Me In 10 Years,’ was uploaded to MrBeast’s main channel on October 4, and, as of press time, has been viewed over 24 million times.

The caption for this video read, “Holy c*** I will probably be so different when this goes public. I will be done with high school I will have gone through college Probably gotten married (jk I am a loser) If I still do youtube that will be crazy.”

“If I don’t have a million subscribers when you see this video, my entire life has been a failure,” young MrBeast says in the video. “I hope I have a million subs.”

“It’d be crazy if I had some ridiculous amount of subscribers,” he says. At the time he recorded the video, he had 8,000 subscribers.

“Hopefully you still do YouTube,” he adds.

MrBeast shared his response video on his secondary YouTube channel, MrBeast2, which has 52 million subscribers. As of press time, his reaction video has over 6 million views.

“Look how young I look,” MrBeast remarks. Then, responding to his past self’s remarks about wanting to have a million subscribers, he says, “Ironically we actually have dozens of channels with millions of subscribers.”

MrBeast then shares some reflections on his life. “I want you to understand what’s going through this 17-year-old’s mind,” he says, before going on to speak about his financial situation growing up, and said, “We didn’t have tons of money growing up.”

“Everyone in my school, everyone around me was saying, ‘Jimmy, you will never be a YouTuber’.”

“I bet you if you went back in time, and this 17-year-old me that I’d have 440 million subscribers, he wouldn’t believe you,” MrBeast said.

At the beginning of this year, MrBeast shared that he is engaged to Thea Booysen in a post on social media. He shared some sweet words about his fiancee in the video, and said, “You’re not married, but you’re engaged. I have a very, very beautiful fiancee, Tia. Isn’t she adorable?”

What People Are Saying

MrBeast, speaking in his reaction video: “I am living a fairytale life right now, and I just want to make sure everyone knows, I’m very grateful.”

One comment on MrBeast’s ‘Hi Me In 10 Years,’ video, liked over 290,000 times reads: “”I Better have 1M subs” and got 443M, Insane.”

Another YouTube user commented on the video: “Seeing your old goals completely obliterated is super inspiring. Thanks for sharing this with us.”

What’s Next

As MrBeast responded to the past version of himself, he also gave his followers a glimpse at what they can expect in the future. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of YouTube,” he said. “Honestly, I think YouTube runs in my veins at this point. I love creating content, I love telling stories, I love entertaining people, I love making your guys’ day. I love being able to impact lives … It’s literally everything I love.”
