UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture will dedicate its new Steinway & Sons Spirio B piano with a celebratory weekend of events Oct. 24-25, highlighted by guest artist Greg Anderson, internationally renowned pianist, composer and Steinway artist. The dedication weekend is made possible through the generosity of the Guarriello family, including several Penn State alumni. Among them is Marissa Guarriello, recently recognized with a 2025 College of Arts and Architecture Alumni Award.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, Anderson will present a free public solo recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall, offering audiences the chance to experience his distinctive artistry and some of the advanced technological possibilities of the Spirio, Steinway’s high-resolution player piano. Known for his dynamic performances, groundbreaking compositions, and innovative approach to classical music, Anderson has toured four continents; appeared on PBS, MTV and NPR; and garnered more than 30 million views for his music videos. He also is half of the acclaimed Anderson & Roe Piano Duo, described by The Washington Post as “the very model of complete 21st-century musicians.”

The Spirio dedication coincides with the annual Marian Garcia Piano Competition, held Oct. 24-26, further underscoring the School of Music’s commitment to piano excellence and innovation. The weekend also will include masterclasses and demonstration sessions, during which Anderson will share his expertise with Penn State students and faculty in exploring the expressive possibilities of the Spirio.

“The Guarriello family’s extraordinary gift of a Steinway Spirio will transform the educational and artistic opportunities available to our students and faculty,” said School of Music Director Ann Marie Stanley. “We are honored to celebrate this moment with Greg Anderson, whose artistry reflects the creativity and forward-thinking spirit of this instrument.”

Admission for Anderson’s public recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the School of Music Recital Hall is free.
