Meghan Markle found herself in an embarrassing moment after she tried to lean in for a kiss with Italian designer Pier Paolo Piccioli, only to bump her head on his sunglasses.
The Duchess, 44, was attending an event during Paris Fashion Week and made a direct approach to the newly appointed creative director at Balenciaga.
However, as she moved in to greet Pier and offer congratulations on his Spring/Summer womenswear collection, she appeared to strike her nose against his dark sunglasses.
Nevertheless, recognizing that photographers had captured their clumsy embrace, Pier seemed to chuckle at the awkward encounter and drew her in for a photo.
According to the Daily Mail, a representative for the Duchess revealed she has “long admired” Pier’s “craftsmanship and modern elegance.”
Additional attendees included Amazon Boss Jeff Bezos’ wife Lauren and actress Anne Hathaway, who is currently in production for Devil Wears Prada 2.
This follows reports that the late Queen Elizabeth pressured Meghan to resolve her conflict with her father prior to her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, as it was causing embarrassment to the Royal Family.
The alleged plea is according to Royal expert Tom Bower in his 2022 book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors.
According to the author, Meghan rejected the proposal of journeying to America to meet her father after he became entangled in a string of controversies.
Shortly after the wedding, Thomas Markle spoke to Good Morning Britain and told viewers: “I’m a footnote in one of the great moments in history, rather than dad walking her down the aisle.”
According to the author, during Meghan’s one-week visit to the Castle of Mey, Charles grew exasperated that Thomas had kept speaking to the media and allegedly said: “Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop?”.
Tom Bower added: “The inconsistencies of Meghan’s excuses not only irritated Charles but also the Queen. The monarch did not believe that Meghan could not resolve her differences with Thomas Markle. To persuade her to make an effort, she joined Charles in a conference call with Meghan and Harry. At the outset, Charles and his mother urged Meghan to fly to America for a reconciliation. Meghan rejected the Queen’s suggestion.”
According to the widely publicized book at the time, Meghan allegedly said: “It was completely unrealistic to think I could fly discreetly to Mexico, arrive unannounced at his doorstep as I had no means of secure communication with my father, to a location and residence I had never visited or known.”
