Taylor Swift is setting the record straight regarding fans’ assumptions on how her future marriage to Travis Kelce might affect her career.
During an Oct. 6 appearance on BBC Radio 2 with Scott Mills following the release of her 12th album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” Mills asked Swift if she was winding down her career now that she was engaged.
“Taylor, don’t tell me this is your last album,” he posed to Swift.
“What? No …” Swift responded, appearing taken aback by his question.
Mills elaborated: “I just saw some fans going, ‘Well, she’s going to get married and then she’s going to have children and [so this is] going to be the last album.’”
Swift didn’t seem too pleased by this speculation.
“A shockingly offensive thing to say,” the “Midnights” singer said with a laugh, adding, “That’s not why people get married — so they can quit their job. It’s also, like, music for me.”
Mills noted that fans were likely “just panicking.”
Swift understood, but reassured that her music career was nowhere near over, just because she and Kelce were getting married. She further capitalized on the fact that Kelce wouldn’t want that for her either.
“I love the person that I am with because he loves what I do, and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music,” Swift said. “That’s the coolest thing about Travis. He is so passionate about what he does that me being passionate about what I do … it connects us.”
Swift continued: “There’s no point in time where he’s going to be like, ‘I’m really upset that you’re still making the music … the music thing that I signed up for, that I know you love, I thought you were going to stop doing that …’ We both — as a living, as a job, as a passion — perform for three and a half hours in NFL stadiums.”
In addition to fans making assumptions over how marriage might deter her career , this speculation may have also ramped up even more after an Oct. 3 interview with BBC Radio 1 with Greg James, who asked Swift if she planned to go back on tour anytime soon.
“No,” Swift said firmly. “I’m gonna be really honest with you. I am so tired,” she said. “Like when I think about doing it again, I’d wanna do it really well again, you know?”
During Swift’s Eras Tour, which ended in Dec. 2024, she performed 149 shows across five continents, 21 countries, and 51 cities over the course of 21 months. While she was likely being honest about touring not being feasible right now, some fans may have taken it as a sign that she was dialing back on her career.
However, Swift has consistently expressed her love for being an artist. When she accepted the Album of the Year award at the 2024 Grammys for “Midnights,” she doubled down on her passion for making music.
“All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too. All I want to do is keep doing this. So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much,” she said.
