Dolly Parton’s sister, Freida, is clearing the air after she publicly asked for prayers amid the country music legend’s recent health issues.
“I want to clear something up. I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly,” Freida wrote in a Facebook post late Tuesday night, Oct. 7.
“She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer,” she continued. “It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference.”
Concern rose over the “9 to 5″ hitmaker’s health after her sister shared another Facebook post earlier on Tuesday, in which Freida said she “was up all night praying for my sister.”
“Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me,” the post read. “She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!”
Freida was referring to Dolly’s recent health challenges that have caused the Grammy Award winner to skip out on several recent appearances. On Sept. 17, Dolly had to miss the opening of a new experience at her theme park, Dollywood, because of kidney stones.
“Hello Dollywood. It’s me. I know. I’m here, you’re there and you’re wondering why that is,” Parton said in a pre-recorded apology video that played at the event and was posted to X.
“Well, I had a little problem. I had a kidney stone, which was causing me a lot of problems. Turns out there was an infection and the doctor said, ‘You don’t need to be traveling right this minute. So, you need a few days to get better,’” the 11-time Grammy winner said. “So he suggested I don’t go to Dollywood today. I want to make this clear, I was looking so forward to it.”
Parton ended the clip by reassuring fans that she will “be back as quick as I can,” adding, “I’m going to be okay. I just can’t do it today.”
The week after, Parton postponed her upcoming Las Vegas shows because of “health challenges.”
“I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts,” Parton wrote in an Instagram post on Sept. 28. “As many of you know, I’ve been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000 check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon!”
She continued, “In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you. While I’ll still be able to work on all of my projects from here in Nashville, I just need a little time to get show ready, as they say. And don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet. But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.”
