If you aren’t caught up with Josh Safdie’s sports dramedy titled Marty Supreme, starring Timothe Chalamet, now is the time to discover and jump into this soon-to-be global phenomenon. Premiering unexpectedly at the New York Film Festival, Safdie’s film is garnering everything from rave critics’ reviews to even Oscar buzz.
Marty Supreme follows the journey of Martin Mauser, a ping pong star who wishes to grow the sport of Table Tennis in America – a dream no one believes is possible. Pursuing his dreams to hell and back, Mauser proves his grit and determination in pursuit of greatness. Alongside Chalamet, the cast features the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma (aka Tyler, the Creator), Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher.
Made with a budget of around $70 million, Marty Supreme is being dubbed as Timothee’s “best performance yet.” Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh took to X raving about the film: “‘Marty Supreme’ is ‘Uncut Gems’ meets ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ meets ‘Jerry Maguire,’ carried by Timothée Chalamet’s best performance yet. I loved it so much.”
Discussing Film’s Diego Andaluz sang the praises too, calling it Safdie’s “best film yet.”
The Hollywood Reporter’s David Canfield claimed Chalamet was “born to play” Martin.
Anne Thompson, editor at large at IndieWire, believes Chalamet is heading for an Oscar run with Marty Supreme
Inverse’s Senior Entertainment Editor Hoai-Tran Bui described the film as a “madcap odyssey that is as exhilarating as it’s exhausting.”
Marty Supreme is scheduled for release in the United States on December 25, 2025.
