We may be two years away from the Harry Potter reboot hitting our screens, but unofficial glimpses from the sets are already sparking nostalgia for Potterheads. From the first look at Weasley siblings to Harry and Hagrid in action at the Leaky Cauldron, so much has surfaced online from the reboot, yet somehow, it still feels like too little.
Next up from the wizarding world that’s making headlines: the first look at Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore – yes, that specific! (I know you can almost hear the voice of Michael Gambon reciting his full name in your head, Potterheads.)
Much like the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon’s rendition of Dumbledore, John Lithgow’s version also sports a long – really long – white beard and half-moon glasses perched at the tip of his nose.
In what appears to be a sandy setting, the new Dumbledore is seen even donning a lengthy dark blue robe – a little different and a whole lot darker shade than what Gambon’s character wore.
While Lithgow is both “excited” and “afraid” to play the iconic Hogwarts Headmaster, the decision wasn’t easy. In his own words, “it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life.” Naturally, it has to be quintessential. (via ScreenRant)
Lithgow’s Dumbledore marks the fourth incarnation of the character: Richard Harris played the role for Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, Michael Gambon for the remaining films in the original franchise, and Jude Law as a younger Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts series.
