‘I Had Such an Amazing Time Making That Show’

Jensen Ackles isn’t happy that the clock has run out on Countdown.

The star of the Prime Video action thriller took to Instagram to address the show’s surprising cancellation on Friday, telling fans in a video: “As some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season. Amazon’s gonna let it go. And it’s a bummer, because I had such an amazing time making that show. I had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew.”

Ackles went on to thank showrunner Derek Haas and Amazon for giving them the opportunity, singling out former Amazon MGM Studios TV head Vernon Sanders “for being such a champion for that show.” Bu he noted that “sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes, and ultimately, it’s out of your hands.” He did say he’s “thankful for the experience” and added that “we’ll see you down the road on something else, I guess.” (Ackles will return to CBS’ Tracker in Season 3 and is set to reprise his role as Soldier Boy in the upcoming The Boys prequel Vought Rising.)

Countdown was axed on Friday by Prime Video after one season, along with the Danel Dae Kim series Butterfly. Countdown starred Ackles as LAPD detective Mark Meachum, part of an elite task force assembled to thwart a nuclear threat. The supporting cast included Jessica Camacho, Eric Dane, Jonathan Togo, Uli Latukefu, Violett Beane and Elliot Knight.
