The MCU is in a relatively quiet place right now. It’s the calm before the storm of Avengers Doomsday next December. Fantastic Four: First Steps wasn’t set in the Prime MCU universe, and for the most part, neither was last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Still, we’ve gotten stories like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Ironheart, all of which are set in the mainline MCU timeline.
And now, we have Wonder Man, the latest MCU Disney+ miniseries. The show has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement way back in 2022, but now we have a full, proper trailer for the series and its uniquely meta premise.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as Simon Williams, an actor trying to get a role in a remake of Wonder Man, an in-universe movie about a superhero with powers eerily similar to those of Simon Williams himself. It looks like, the way She-Hulk: Attorney at Law explored an MCU-ified version of a legal dramady, Wonder Man is aiming to be a satirical look at Hollywood through the lens of the MCU.
The show comes from creator Destin Daniel Cretton, who developed the show after finishing work on Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings. With the inclusion of Ben Kingsley reprising his role of Trevor Slattery from Shang-Chi (and Iron Man 3), Wonder Man can be seen as something of a follow-up to the events of Shang-Chi. Likewise, Cretton is also directing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, so I wonder if there might be any connections between Wonder Man and Spidey’s next adventure… Well, probably not, but who knows?
Wonder Man will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to debut on January 27, 2026.
