Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness dealt with a high-profile and costly divorce following their surprise split.
The former couple, who announced their split in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage, are in the middle of dividing a global property empire reportedly worth hundreds of millions.
Property records revealed in June that Furness, 69, paid $11.7 million to buy Jackman’s share of their $21 million Manhattan penthouse, according to People.
The luxury home, designed by renowned architect Jean Nouvel and located at 100 Eleventh Avenue in Chelsea, features nearly 5,000 square feet of indoor space, three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and sweeping views of the Hudson River. It also boasts a huge 3,700-square-foot outdoor terrace.
The deal was completed on May 25 – just two days before Furness officially filed for divorce.
The transaction was done through Phoenix Rising I LLC, a company tied to Furness that shares an address with the couple’s legal team, suggesting careful planning by financial and legal advisers.
The Manhattan penthouse is just one slice of their property portfolio. Jackman and Furness also own a Bondi Beach condo in Sydney, a Hamptons beach house, and a second New York apartment in the West Village.
The latter was listed for $38.9 million in 2022, but quietly pulled from the market in April 2024 after multiple price cuts, according to the New York Post.
Despite the scale of their wealth – estimated at around $387 million – the divorce has moved quickly. The Daily Mail reported that they reached an agreement to divide their assets by the end of May, with Furness’s court filings showing the terms were uncontested and just needed a judge’s approval.
However, not everything went smoothly behind closed doors. The Australian actress opened up about the emotional toll of the split. “A higher power helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage,” she said, also referencing feelings of “betrayal.”
Sources told the publication that shewas “blindsided” and “extremely disappointed,” adding that there had been “an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press.”
The duo met on the set of Australian TV series Correlli in 1995 and married a year later. They share two adopted children, Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.
In a joint statement to People, the pair said, “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.” They added that their decision to separate was made in the spirit of “individual growth,” while still valuing the “wonderful, loving marriage” they shared.
