The tributes for Diane Keaton continue to pour in following her death at the age of 79 over the weekend. David Letterman gave fans a treat when he honored the Oscar-winning actress.
Instead of just using his own words to remember Keaton, Letterman shared a throwback interview of Keaton on his show Late Night with David Letterman. It took place in the 1980s as Keaton was channeling her inner Madonna with her outfit for the interview.
The interview featured Letterman revealing that Keaton snuck into his studio audience during a taping of the late-night talk show. Keaton revealed she simply wanted to see his show, nothing else.
Letterman and Keaton’s exchange was hilarious, especially when she admitted to wanting to be a member of his audience more.
“Yeah. I’d like it. I think that would be nice,” she said with a huge grin on her face.
In true Letterman fashion, he gave her gruff for not speaking to him the night she was in the audience but talking to other people in his crew. The interview took a turn after Letterman asked Keaton about being in the audience at a wrestling match earlier that week.
Keaton erupted in laughter, admitted she was there, and it was great. The Because I Said So star couldn’t stop gushing over the wrestling event at Madison Square Garden.
It was a hilarious interview that felt so naturally funny because Keaton was just being herself. There was no shortage of laughter or smiles that’s for sure.
Letterman captioned the video “The night Diane Keaton sneaked into Dave’s audience.”
Fans flocked to the comments to weigh in on a much-needed funny moment as the loss of Keaton weighs heavily on so many.
“She came to a Seinfeld taping and sat in the audience. I kept looking up to see her giggling, I thought I’d faint with excitement,” wrote a fan. Another fan shared, “She was a shining light always. Such a beautiful lady.”
