Diane Keaton’s final public appearance was reportedly at Jack Nicholson’s birthday party, which she attended in April, mere months before her death.
During her final months, the 79-year-old actress clearly kept her decades-long Hollywood friendships close to her before she passed.
Diane Keaton died in California in October after having an illustrious career with roles in huge films such as Father of the Bride, The Godfather, and The First Wives Club. Diane found fame in the 1970s, winning an Oscar for Best Actress in 1977 for her role in Annie Hall. She leaves behind two children, daughter Dexter and son Duke, whom she adopted in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
However, following her death, actor Ed Begley Jr. told People that the last time he saw Diane was at Jack Nicholson’s birthday six months ago.
“I saw her fairly recently at Jack Nicholson’s birthday party, and it was good to see her there,” the 76-year-old actor said.
Diane worked with Jack in 2003 and ended up being nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2004 Oscars for her performance as Erica Barry in Something’s Gotta Give.
The movie was written and directed by Nancy Meyers, Diane’s close friend, and featured an ensemble cast, including Keanu Reeves, Amanda Peet, Frances McDormand, and Jon Favreau.
Speaking about the effect Diane had on Jack during filming, Nancy told Vulture, “We’re rehearsing that scene in the street, where he’s running after her, and he calls me over after one rehearsal. He’s all rattled.”
She said she asked Jack what was wrong, and he replied, “Diane just told me she loves me.”
“I couldn’t tell if he was horrified or thrilled. So I was like, ‘Yes, I know, I wrote that line. It’s in the script, Jack.’ And he said, ‘Oh, OK.’ He thought she meant it. It’s really funny. That’s her.”
