The R&B singer D’Angelo never had a wife. Although he never married, he did have a well-known relationship with former girlfriend, singer Angie Stone, the mother of one of his three kids.
Their son Michael Archer II, is a singer who uses the name Swayvo Twain. D’Angelo also had two other children, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His daughter Imani Archer shared a photo on Instagram showing her with D’Angelo after his death. According to Page Six, D’Angelo also had a son named Morocco.
Tragically, Stone died less than one year before the singer, and her life ended abruptly.
According to USA Today, Stone died in a car crash less than 1 year before the singer passed away from cancer. Stone was “D’Angelo’s muse for ‘Brown Sugar,’ his solo debut album,” according to Page Six, and she was only 63 years old when she died.
D’Angelo and Stone broke up in 1999 after dating for several years, according to USA Today.
A Lawsuit Revealed How Angie Stone Died in Graphic Detail
A lawsuit gave details of Stone’s tragic death. The lawsuit accused the driver of Stone’s Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van of having “lost control and flipped over.” Stone, also an R&B singer, “was headed home from a performance as a passenger in the vehicle with her bandmates,” Fox 5 News reported.
According to The Associated Press, Stone survived the initial crash. “Passerby pulled over and helped five of the nine occupants crawl out,” according to the AP.
Horrifically, as Stone was trying to crawl out of the vehicle, “an 18-wheeler carrying a load of sugar slammed into the van,” according to the AP. Stone was ejected from the van and pinned under it, dying there, AP reported.
D’Angelo Died of Pancreatic Cancer
D’Angelo’s family released a statement after his death was revealed. According to TMZ, D’Angelo died of pancreatic cancer in New York City on October 14, 2025.
“The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life … After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025,” the statement, given to TMZ, read.

“We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world,” it says.
Tributes are flowing for D’Angelo. “Such a sad loss to the passing of D’angelo. We have so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep Peacefully D’ Love You KING,” wrote DJ Premier on X.
