Earlier this week, Netflix premiered the first season of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an animated show based on Tom Clancy’s iconic hero Sam Fisher. Netflix and series showrunner Derek Kolstad didn’t waste much time before revealing that Splinter Cell: Deathwatch has been renewed for a second season.

Kolstad made his announcement about Deathwatch’s return during an interview with IGN. He indicated that Season 2 is already in pre-production, which suggests that the renewal of the show was already in the works before the series’ debut this week.

“Everyone is super excited about where we go next,” Kolstad said, before lightly addressing the fate of one of the characters from Season 1’s finale.

“What I love about those kinds of endings are when you return to it, usually we see one of three ways,” noted Kolstad. “One, you address that right away. Two, you ignore it. Or three, it’s a hybrid approach. And here it’s a hybrid approach, right? And what I think you can see in Season 2 is a larger-scale story, but the intimacy of character and the intimacy of action.”

When asked about the show’s canine character, Kaiju, Kolstad replied that “Kaiju … will be safe forever.”

The series features Liev Schreiber as the voice of an older Sam Fisher who comes out of retirement to help a younger agent, Zinnia Mckenna (Kirby Howell-Baptiste). Every episode of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Fans of the original video games are still waiting for the Splinter Cell remake that was announced in 2022. In the meantime, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow just hit Steam, and there’s a sale on the Splinter Cell Legacy Collection as well.
