The Reading Royals made two trades as they sent Nick Carabin to the Cincinnati Cyclones for future considerations and acquired Jake Willets from the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for future considerations. Defenseman Emile Chouinard was also loaned to the Royals by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. These moves brought the Royals down to 27 players on their roster. Season-opening rosters were due to the league by 3 PM today.
Jake Willets

Willets, 26, returns to the North Division after beginning last season with the Maine Mariners, where he put up one goal and two assists for three points before going over to Romania. During his time in Romania with CSM Corona Brasov, he had four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 23 games. He would add a goal and three assists for four points in the Erste Liga Playoffs.
The Erie, Michigan, native is entering his fourth season in the ECHL, as he’s spent time with the Toledo Walleye, Atlanta Gladiators, and Maine Mariners. In 77 career games, Willets has five goals and 14 assists for 19 points.
Emile Choinard

Chouinard, 22, played in 53 games last season with the Royals, where he put up two goals and four assists. He would add an assist in four games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Prior to joining the Royals, the Quebec City native spent four seasons in the QMJHL with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. In 200 games with the Drakkar, he put up 12 goals and 46 assists for 58 points. He would add two assists in 29 QMJHL playoff games. During his last season in the QMJHL, his season was cut short after being diagnosed with Hopkin’s Lymphoma. In his first game back in nearly two months, Chouinard had an assist in Game 3 of the Drakkar’s First Round playoff series. Chouinard would win the Paul Dumont Trophy in 2024. The Paul Dumont Trophy is awarded to the QMJHL Personality of the Year.
