It looks as if Snoop Dogg has changed his mind about queer representation in the media. Earlier this summer, the rapper went on a podcast to air out his frustrations after watching the Disney animated movie Lightyear with his grandson and realizing it features a character with two moms. “It threw me for a loop,” Snoop said. “I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this? These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.’” Apparently, now he does.

Snoop has partnered with GLAAD to support Spirit Day, an anti-bullying movement for LGBTQ+ youth. As part of the campaign, the rapper sat down for a conversation with Jeremy Beloate, a member of the LGBTQ+ community and former Team Snoop contestant on The Voice. The two have also collaborated on a song titled “Love Is Love,” which will be featured in an episode of Snoop’s animated children’s show, Doggyland. Where was this energy back in August?

During his conversation with Beloate, Snoop said he feels the song they made “is a beautiful bridge to bringing understanding,” adding that “These are things that kids have questions about so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love.”

He continued, “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is … being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key.” Better late than never?
