Pop Culture Jeopardy! fans will have to switch streaming apps come season 2’s debut.
In a rare move for the entertainment world, the Jeopardy! spinoff has a new home, Deadline reports, switching from Amazon to Netflix for its second installment.
Meanwhile, fans will be pleased to hear that Colin Jost, who hosted the first season that launched in December, is in talks to return for the next one.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a new twist on the classic show that originally started in 1964 and features three contestants trying to be experts in categories such as Gen Z, the Avengers, alternative rock and Zendaya, as Deadline noted on Thursday, Oct. 16.
“Pop Culture Jeopardy! captivated an audience with its fun and energetic game play, building on the beloved franchise and offering fans an opportunity to test their zeitgeist knowledge,” Suzanne Prete, president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement, per Variety. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with the exemplary team at Netflix to bring more episodes to our passionate and loyal viewers.”
According to Variety‘s sources, Prime Video had changed its strategy with game shows and come to a mutual decision with Sony Pictures Television to shop Pop Culture Jeopardy! to other distributors.
It had launched on Amazon as part of a game show block that also featured Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity? — hosted by Travis Kelce, who is certainly busy these days between football season and his new fiancée, Taylor Swift. One can assume the power couple has quite the wedding to plan — so Kelce, 36, might not be returning to the studio any time soon.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! arrived amid the 41st season of Jeopardy!, the long-running trivia show popularized by the late, great Alex Trebek. It’s currently hosted by former winner Ken Jennings, with the show now airing its 42nd season.
