Emily Deschanel, 49, is getting candid about her dynamic with her sister and fellow actress Zooey Deschanel, 45.
During the October 14 episode of actor Michael Rosenbaum‘s podcast, Inside of You, Emily shared that she is “very good friends with [her] sister.” She clarified that it has not always been the case.
“We have our times for sure. I mean, like, it’s a complicated thing to be sisters. But we’re definitely very close. I mean, we fought a lot as kids,” said Emily to Rosenbaum.
She then explained that she and Zooey “would physically fight each other” during their childhood.
“There’s nobody who would push my buttons more. I’m sure I push her buttons more than anybody else,” said Emily in the podcast interview.
She then shared that once she “went to college,” her bond with Zooey strengthened.
“I think we had an appreciation for each other because like the distance, you know, helped,” said Emily.
In addition, she said that her children, Henry, 14, and Calvin, 10, whom she shares with actor David Hornsby, have a good relationship with Zooey’s children, Elsie, 10, and Charlie, 8, fathered by her ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik. Zooey’s fiancé, HGTV star Jonathan Scott, is her children’s stepfather.
Emily Deschanel Said She Would Trick Her Sister During Their Childhood
In a September 2012 interview on Conan, Emily said that she “would kind of torture” Zooey during their childhood. She explained that she “was the older sister” and didn’t have any other siblings.
“We would physically fight all the time. But then I’d play kind of mental games with her. My favorite one was that I would tell her that I was from Neptune, that I was a Neptunian, that I’d killed her sister and taken over her body. And that I was going to kill her next,” shared the Bones star during the interview.
Emily shared other insight into her childhood with Zooey in a 2014 interview on The Queen Latifah Show. According to Emily, the New Girl star was “very possessive about her things.”
“As a sister growing up, I was not allowed to touch her clothes or anything. It’s a good thing now we don’t wear the same size,” quipped Emily during the 2014 interview.
