Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, known for her recent role in Freakier Friday, was among the demonstrators in Los Angeles on Saturday participating in the nationwide No Kings protest. This mass movement is a response to Donald Trump‘s presidency and what protesters perceive as increasing authoritarianism.
The demonstration attracted millions across the nation, with several Hollywood personalities joining Curtis in expressing their support. After attending the protest, Curtis took to Instagram to share a pointed message aimed at Donald Trump.
She posted a picture of a “no parking” sign, altered with duct tape to read “no king.”
Her caption read, “In this world of abundance and BIG, BIGGER, BIGGEST, it doesn’t matter if this was the MOST people ever turning out in protest, it just matters that we SHOWED UP, STOOD UP, said what we THINK and FEEL and now the HARD work. Her post was met with an outpouring of supportive comments from fans. One fan wrote, “Love this. The sign is pretty creative!” Another commented, “God, I can only hope so.” A third chimed in with, “I love this!!!”
Several high-profile figures joined Curtis at rallies across the country. Ben Stiller, the producer and director of Severance, reposted a photo from an attendee holding a sign that read, “No Kings except for Knicks player Jalen Brunson.”
Actress Glenn Close also participated, sharing a picture of herself holding a sign that stated, “No oligarchs. No dictators. No despots. No autocrats. No kings!”
Director Spike Lee posted a photo from Times Square in New York City, showing a protester with a sign featuring Trump on the cover of Time magazine and the words “to go.”
In Chicago, John Cusack, star of High Fidelity and Say Anything, addressed the Trump administration during a rally.
Speaking to celebrity.land, he said, “What’s interesting is that he doesn’t understand that all the labor rights around the world came from this town, this place. So if he thinks this place is going to be a fascist hub – no chance!”
Cusack further added, “No, you can’t put troops on our streets. You can’t create enough chaos to invoke the Insurrection Act so you can stay in power. We all know what your plan is.”
Before the demonstrations, Mark Ruffalo urged involvement via Instagram, posting, “WE the People – WE have the power and together WE will win! Check out this inspiring video and share it with your family, friends and neighbors to join one of the over 2,500 No Kings protests across our country this Saturday, October 18th.”
The demonstrations represented the third significant nationwide rally since Trump’s return to the White House, with numerous attendees characterizing them as a declaration that democracy requires protection.
