Hollywood star Robert De Niro has come under fire for labeling Stephen Miller, a top advisor to President Donald Trump, as a “Nazi” during a TV interview.

The 82-year-old Academy Award-winning actor made the controversial remarks on MSNBC’s The Weekend while discussing the potential of Trump trying to extend his term in office. When asked if he thought the president would peacefully step down in 2028, De Niro retorted, “No way. We see it all the time – he will not want to leave.”

He then added, “He set it up with, I guess, he’s the Goebbels of the cabinet, Stephen Miller. He’s a Nazi…He is, and he’s Jewish, and he should be ashamed of himself.”

Joseph Goebbels was Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda and one of the most extreme antisemites in the Nazi regime. Following Hitler’s death, Goebbels briefly assumed the role of Chancellor of Germany before poisoning his six children and committing suicide.

Miller, who is Trump’s deputy chief of staff, is recognized for his influence on the administration’s immigration policies and has been a strong advocate for strict border controls.

He has also backed the expansion of travel bans and stricter vetting procedures for individuals entering the United States, especially from Muslim-majority countries.

De Niro continued his commentary by criticizing Trump, stating, “It’s all nonsense. We know it’s all racist. I mean, that’s what he appeals to, that’s what Trump is. What you see is what you get. It’s not going to change.”

In recent times, Miller and his spouse, Katie, a former GOP communications aide, have voiced their concerns about what they term as harassment from activists. Activists have used chalk to write messages on their Arlington, Virginia, residence, such as “Stephen Miller is destroying democracy, “Stop the kidnapping,” and “Trans rights are human rights.”

Following the murder of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk in Utah, new messages surfaced near the Millers’ residence. In mid-September, Katie Miller posted on X, “To the ‘Tolerant Left’ who spent their day trying to intimidate us in the house where we have three young children: We will not back down. We will not cower in fear. We will double down. Always, For Charlie.” She shared footage of the graffiti being cleaned off with a garden hose.

In light of these recurring incidents, the couple has reportedly put their home up for sale and relocated from the neighborhood.

De Niro’s remarks were broadcast during a weekend filled with major protests nationwide. The “No Kings” rallies, held in cities like New York, Boston, and Los Angeles, drew attention to worries about executive overreach and fears of authoritarianism under Trump’s administration.

Protesters held placards that read “Nothing is more patriotic than protesting” and “Resist Fascism,” while some waved large banners featuring the preamble of the U.S. Constitution.

The rallies represented the third nationwide demonstration since Trump’s return to office, occurring alongside a government shutdown that has heightened tensions between the executive branch and Congress.

Event organizers stated the movement aimed to underscore the significance of checks and balances and to sound the alarm against what they perceive as escalating dangers to democracy.

During the protests, Trump stayed at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. “They say they’re referring to me as a king. I’m not a king,” the president remarked in a Fox News interview that broadcast the same day.

A Trump campaign social media account subsequently shared a digitally modified video showing the president donning a crown and gesturing from a balcony.
