Prince William has reportedly harbored resentment toward Prince Andrew ever since his uncle failed to warmly welcome his wife into the family. Royal expert and commentator Richard Kay suggests that Andrew’s treatment of Princess Katemay play a crucial role in his potential removal from the Royal Lodge.
Richard has indicated that the Prince of Wales’s hostility toward Andrew stems from how Kate was received when she first joined the Royal Family. On Friday, October 18, it was announced that Andrew had given up all of his remaining titles following a “discussion with the King.” In 2022, Buckingham Palace revealed that Andrew had returned his military titles and Royal patronages to the Queen.
Reports suggest Prince William was instrumental in ousting Andrew from his Buckingham Palace office and has been determined to prevent him from participating in Royal occasions.
Speculation has emerged that Prince William might urge his father, King Charles, to evict Andrew from the Royal Lodge entirely.
Royal correspondent Richard Kay, speaking with MailOnline last year, claimed that William has “long held a grudge” against Andrew and feels that Charles has been “too soft” on him.
Richard wrote: “Differences between monarch and heir do remain, especially when it comes to the Prince Andrew scandal. William has long held a grudge against Andrew for being unwelcoming when Kate first joined the Royal Family and feels that his father has been too soft on him.”
“It has led to speculation that it is William who is pushing his father to evict the Duke of York from Royal Lodge, so the Waleses could move in.”
Royal expert Tom Quinn shared with The Mirror: “For King Charles, forcing Andrew to move to Frogmore solves several problems at once — it sends a message to Harry that, as a private citizen and no longer a working royal, he will never be allowed back to Frogmore. It sends a message to Andrew that, having disgraced himself, he can no longer expect to maintain the grand lifestyle.
“And, finally, it means that a suitably grand residence can be made ready for the royals who really matter — William and Kate. Charles is determined that Royal Lodge is the only residence on the royal estate at Windsor that is big enough and regal enough for his heir,” he claimed.
The question of whether Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, should relocate to the Royal Lodge in the future remains undecided, but an insider close to the pair has previously indicated that “taking on Royal Lodge would require a transformation in how they lead their lives.”
The source went on to disclose: “One of the main reasons why the couple are so content at Adelaide Cottage, their current home in Windsor Great Park, is because it is a family house and there are no live-in staff. Moving into the vast Royal Lodge would mean having to accommodate domestic staff, which they have long resisted.”
However, a move now seems unlikely, as in August it was announced that William, Catherine, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will be relocating to the eight-bedroom Grade II listed Forest Lodge.
