Don’t hold your breath hoping for a Pink Floyd reunion after David Gilmour’s recent comments, as it seems the beef between Gilmour and Roger Waters will never be squashed.
While speaking to the Telegraphin an interview published on Sunday, October 19, Gilmour was asked what it would take to reunite with his former band member. His response was telling. He said, “Nothing. There is no possible way that I would do that.”
The Pink Floyd feud is nothing new, as the rift started in the late ’70s when the band was recording their groundbreaking album, The Wall. That led to Waters leaving the band in 1985, citing artistic differences and personality clashes.
In later years, Gilmour and his wife, Polly Samson, have both spoken out about the rift, citing significant political differences as the reason they refuse to reunite.
In the same interview, Samson told The Telegraph, “If they knew you’re married to someone from Pink Floyd, half the time people were giving me quite strange looks, and it was really uncomfortable. I just wanted to draw a line and make it clear that these were not views held by me or the person I was married to.”
In 2023, Samson took aim at Waters on X, writing, “Sadly you are antisemitic to your rotten core,” adding, “and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.”
Roger Waters then posted a statement on X in response to Samson’s claims. He wrote, “Roger Waters is aware of the incendiary and wildly inaccurate comments made about him on Twitter by Polly Samson, which he refutes entirely. He is currently taking advice as to his position.”
Further proving that a Pink Floyd reunion is not in the cards, the band’s rights were sold to Sony last year in a $400 million deal that included their music catalog, name, and likeness. The deal did not include publishing rights.
Gilmour’s interview and comments about his former bandmate come just two days after the release of his live album The Luck and Strange Concerts.
