Prince William has hinted at significant changes when he becomes king, with five members of the Royal family potentially losing their titles. This dramatic shift would be enacted through an executive Royal order known as “letters patent” approved by Parliament in the early stages of his reign.
This news follows Prince Andrew’s recent decision to give up his remaining titles and honors, including his Duke of York title, amidst controversy. In addition to Prince Andrew, those reportedly facing the loss of their titles include Prince Harry, Prince Archie, Princess Lilibet, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie.
Meanwhile, other Royal family members such as Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Lady Louise, and James have never used ‘prince’ or ‘princess’ titles.
Royal expert Tom Sykes shared with the Daily Beast: “Prince William will strip Prince Andrew, along with all other non-working royals, of their HRHs and princely titles when he ascends to the throne, friends and allies of the Prince have [said].
“The dramatic change will be effected by an executive royal order known as ‘letters patent’ ratified by Parliament in the early weeks of the reign of King William V. It will remove princely titles not just from Andrew but also from Beatrice, Eugenie, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet.”, reports the Express.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their decision to step back as senior working royals in January 2020, and they now live in California with their children.
Their kids, six year old Prince Archie and four year old Princess Lilibet, as the current monarch’s grandchildren, are entitled to their ‘prince’ and ‘princess’ titles.
Despite their father’s decision not affecting them, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, might lose their titles when their cousin ascends the throne.
Both Eugenie and Beatrice aren’t currently working royals and have careers outside of the Royal household.
Beatrice is a strategist at a tech firm named Afiniti, while Eugenie is the director at Hauser & Wirth, an art gallery in Mayfair, London.
As of this writing, Andrew still holds the title of Duke of York on the Royal Family website, but this is expected to change soon, likely referring to him simply as Prince Andrew.
