Slipknot’s DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson shared a new project that will take him musically in a different direction. The heavy metal rocker, who is engaged to Kelly Osbourne, just launched his own record label, Vomit Face Records.
Wilson’s first signed artist is interesting: Lil Bushwick, the son of the late Geto Boys rapper Bushwick Bill.
“Bushwick Bill and I had made a promise to each other to make an album,” Wilson shared in a statement obtained by Revolver. “After several roadblocks in scheduling, Bill sadly, and unfortunately, passed away due to illness most were unaware of.”
The statement continued, “In meeting his son and discovering that he too was a music artist, I made a promise to the spirit of the great Bushwick, that I would fulfill our pact by producing an album for his son. We did just that, and through the help of a dear friend DJ Lethal, we were able to add an unreleased track of Bill’s, and I’m proud to say, we made the impossible possible for this iconic hip-hop lineage of father and son.”
Lil Bushwick, whose real name is Javon Shaw, has been making music for nearly a decade, but previously used the name Yung KNXW. After his father’s death in 2019 following a battle with pancreatic cancer, he decided to change his name to Lil Bushwick to honor the late Geto Boys rapper.
Most recently, he released a song with Pimp C’s son, Yung Pimp, called “Can’t Fw Us.” His upcoming single, which was made under Sid Wilson’s new record label, was co-produced by DJ Lethal, who is best known for his time in House of Pain and Limp Bizkit.
Lil Bushwick’s self-titled album is scheduled for release on October 31. The first single, “Take It Back,” will feature vocals from an unreleased Bushwick Bill track.
