Writer-director David Prior, who created the 2020 cult horror success The Empty Man, will direct the upcoming movie, reports the Mirror.
Joining Friend is a stellar ensemble cast including It actor Jaeden Martell and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Kevin Durand. The supporting cast features Aksel Hennie (The Martian), Arnas Fedaravicius (The White Lotus), Chris Petrovski (Ray Donovan), Eugene Prokofiev (NCIS: Los Angeles), Johannes Haukur Johannesson (Succession) and Julian Kostov (The White Lotus).
A sinister plot summary for the upcoming supernatural thriller states: “Flying dark, a plane carrying a team of mercenaries crash-lands on a remote snowy summit.
“When they come across a maze-like stone fortress, it’s no refuge from the wolves and the freezing winds. It’s more like a trap.
“What they discover can stop the heart – or worse. As terror takes on a new shape, the real battle for survival begins.”
While Netflix hasn’t confirmed a release date for The Boy in the Iron Box, they have announced that production is about to get underway. Audiences can expect this Netflix original to hit screens sometime late 2026 or early 2027.
In the meantime, the six hair-raising short stories by del Toro and Hogan are up for grabs on Amazon. Horror fans can also get a sneak peek of what’s to come by watching director Prior’s first feature, The Empty Man, now streaming on Disney+.
One glowing five-star review on Google praised it as “an ambitious tale of cosmic horror, with countless creative, intriguing, and of course terrifying ideas that are all pulled off brilliantly.”
Another reviewer raved: “Easily one of the best horror movies of the decade thus far.
“If you’re on the fence, you NEED to check it out. You won’t be sorry.”
The Boy in the Iron Box does not yet have a release date.
