Critically acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Chet Faker has announced a new album, A Love For Strangers, due for release on February.
He has offered a scintillating taste of what’s to come with the new single “This Time For Real”, a potent, irresistible reminder of his inimitable way with an earworm hook. It also comes accompanied by a vibrant, playful video of Faker, real name Nick Murphy, travelling through the iconic landscapes of NYC by jet ski, sports car and pedicab.
The single finds Faker at his effortlessly anthemic best, addressing the balanced weight of expectation that comes with success as an artist. It acts as the perfect scene setter for the album, which sees the ARIA-winning songwriter, musician, and producer coming full circle, returning to the sense of restless exploration that led him to make music as Chet Faker in the first place.
A Love For Strangers follows 2021’s Hotel Surrender. It emerges from a place of personal rediscovery that was sharpened after the ten-year anniversary of his debut full-length, Built on Glass.
Earlier this year, Faker returned with his first new single since 2023, “Far Side of the Moon” — shimmering proof that his journey is far from over. And in September, he released “Inefficient Love”, a raw, intimate follow-up.
In a career defined by restless creativity – spanning albums under his birth name, including the lauded instrumental work Music For Silence, and collaborations with artists like Flume and Marcus Marr, A Love For Strangers offers yet more proof that Faker’s extraordinary musical explorations are only just beginning.
Faker is due to perform on December 2nd, as part of Sydney Opera House’s On The Steps series. The series is delivered in partnership with Support Act, with several initiatives designed to raise funds for the charity’s crisis relief services for music industry professionals who are unable to work.
