James Gunn has recently opened up about the status of the long-in-development television series about Amanda Waller.
What did James Gunn say about the Waller TV show?
Speaking to Charlie Schneider on his Emergency Awesome YouTube channel, Gunn was asked about the Waller series, and revealed that the show is still in development. According to Schneider, Gunn said that scripts were still being worked on, and that the series would address a handful of things about the character.
According to Gunn, Schneider noted that the show will follow what Waller has been up to during the events of DC Studios‘ Superman movie, the second season of Peacemaker, and the follow-up to Superman, Man of Tomorrow.
The comments from Gunn come just a few weeks after he provided another update on the show. During his appearance at the Peacemaker Season 2 red carpet premiere, Gunn stated that even though work has begun on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller series, several other projects have taken precedence over the series since.
“We’re working on it, but you know some things have moved really fastly and some things not so fast – and that’s been a thing that hasn’t moved so fast. But I can’t wait to see Viola get her Waller outfits on, with her s—– floral dresses and do something special,” he said at the time.
Having first appeared as the no-nonsense government official in 2016’s Suicide Squad, Viola Davis returned as Waller in the 2021 follow-up The Suicide Squad, before voicing the animated version of the character in 2024’s Creature Commandos. She also has two uncredited cameos as Amanda Waller in 2022’s Black Adam and the Peacemaker series.
