Día de los Muertos 2025: Portland events celebrate Day of the Dead

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a vibrant celebration of life, memory and cultural connection rooted in Indigenous Mexican traditions and later shaped by Spanish influences. Observed on Nov. 1 and 2, the holiday honors loved ones who have died with altars, music, dance and shared community rituals.

This year, cities and neighborhoods across the Portland metro area are hosting events that blend tradition with creativity, from theatrical performances and festivals to library workshops and family-friendly celebrations. Whether you’re visiting a local altar, enjoying live music or creating crafts with loved ones, there are many ways to take part in this tradition.

Here’s a roundup of 2025 Día de los Muertos events happening around the Portland area.

Milagro’s Día De Los Muertos Festival

Milagro’s 30th Annual Día de Los Muertos Festival continues through Nov. 9 with the play “!Alebrijes! – A Día de Muertos Tale,” written by Georgina Escobar. The show is a playful homage to the totemic creations of Mexico City’s Pedro Linares, who originally created the fantastical folk art known as alebrijes.

Día de Muertos: A Celebration of Life

Oregon Muertos is bringing back its Día de Muertos installations across Oregon. Each location will have distinct artwork, ofrendas and special events now until mid-November. This year, the project includes contemporary art installations at The Armory and Memento Mori Cafe and a dance performance by Huehca Omeyocan at The Haven. Forest Grove Farmers Market

The Forest Grove Farmers Market, in collaboration with Adelante Mujeres, will host their annual Dia de los Muertos celebration with live music and entertainment every hour and activities and altars inside the Adelante Mujeres building.

M&M Marketplace

M&M Marketplace in Hillsboro invites the community to honor tradition and celebrate life with a two-day Día de los Muertos event. The celebration will feature live music, colorful altares (or altars), Catrina and Calaveritas contests, a photo booth and kids’ face painting, bringing together art, culture and remembrance.

Día de los Muertos at Zenger Farm

Zenger Farm’s annual Día de los Muertos celebration includes a community altar, marigold harvesting, Oaxacan food, performances and farm activities.

MESO Makers Market

MESO Makers Market will host a free community event to celebrate Día de los Muertos traditions by showcasing Latino entrepreneurship. The market will include community altars, family crafts, live music, traditional food and a catarina flower crown station.

Blumenauer Witching Hour

Portland’s eastside will transform into a car-free festival zone for the Blumenauer Witching Hour on Nov. 1. The Halloween and Día de los Muertos celebration will fill Northeast and Southeast Seventh Avenue with live music, art and activities including Milagro’s Day of the Dead Altar Ride, a pop-up market and a pet costume contest. The event highlights community connection and active transportation along the Blumenauer Bridge and Green Loop.

Gresham Arts Plaza

The Spirit of Gresham is bringing back its annual Día de los Muertos celebration at Gresham Arts Plaza. This year’s event will include live music, traditional crafts, face painting, Catrina and Catrin contests and local food vendors, offering a family-friendly way to honor loved ones and celebrate Mexican culture.

Forest Lawn Cemetery

Forest Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum in Gresham will host its annual Día de los Muertos celebration Nov. 2. The free, family-friendly event will feature traditional altars, folklore dancers, mariachi music, food and face painting to honor and celebrate loved ones who have died.

​​Joshua Josué’s Día de los Muertos Concert

Portland musician Joshua Josué will headline his third annual Día de los Muertos Concert at Polaris Hall, honoring Latino heritage and loved ones through Chicano rock and Americana. This 21 and older event will feature performances by Delgado y Los Conejos de Amor and The Ghost of James Jones.

Hasta La Muerte

Las Cafeteras return to The Reser with “Hasta La Muerte,” a Día de los Muertos-inspired performance blending music, dance and storytelling. The show reimagines Mexican traditions through modern rhythms and visuals, celebrating life, death and remembrance in a vibrant multimedia experience.

Multnomah County Libraries

Multnomah County Library branches will host community celebrations honoring Día de los Muertos traditions. At Troutdale Library, visitors can decorate sugar skulls in a Spanish-language workshop on Oct. 29. Kenton Library will hold a bilingual event on Nov. 2, featuring crafts and activities exploring the holiday’s cultural roots.
