The rising singer/songwriter reveals the inspiration for the song came from a text message from one of her closest friends.

Over the last two years, Brett Landin made the most of the time she had with friends and family. Now that she’s drifted off to pursue a career in country music, she is sharing her gratitude for those she misses most with her brand new nostalgic single “Same Coast.”

Out today (Friday, Oct. 24) and co-written in just under an hour alongside her good friend and producer, Johnny Hanson, “Same Coast” is inspired by the people closest to Landin’s heart. The track pays tribute to the college buddies that shaped her — the ones with whom she’s laughed, caught a buzz with, tailgated with, and driven around in the car with, with the windows rolled down.

Speaking of car rides, the emerging female country-Americana artist and University of Southern California graduate says inspiration for “Same Coast” came through the speakers of her car in the form of a text.

“The inspiration came directly from a text that I got from one of my best guy friends in college,” Landin laughs, remembering the moment Apple CarPlay unexpectedly read the message aloud from one of her group chats. “He said, ‘I really miss doing life with you all. Like, the homecomings and the game days. I’m overall happier than I’ve ever been, but I wish we were all doing life together.’”

For Landin, that simple text sparked something immediate. On her way to Hanson’s house to record vocals for another track, the New York-based artist found herself humming a melody.

“It was one of those out-of-body experiences,” she recalls. “We were gonna put down vocals for another song, and I ran through Johnny’s studio door and said, ‘Scratch those plans, we need to write this now.’ Forty-five minutes later, ‘Same Coast’ was born.”

“I love every bit of it,” Landin says of the sun-washed, breezy anthem that captures both the longing and love woven into friendships that are never outgrown, even when life takes you in different directions. “It rings true for me in the season of life that I’m in right now, but it’s also really special that it came straight from the horse’s mouth in a sense that it’s a song about my friends.”

“They’ve seen the sound bites on social media, but they haven’t heard it front to back,” she notes of her friend group, who are aware of the song’s existence. “They know that there’s a song coming out. I think they both feel like they’re having their Taylor Swift moment.”

“Same Coast” paves the way for a second track that Landin promises to deliver before the end of the year, as well as an EP to follow in 2026. The song follows Landin’s debut EP, Who Knew, which landed on major Spotify playlists such as Fresh Finds Country.

Though Landin longs to see her friends on the West Coast, she will be keeping busy on the East Coast through much of the holiday season. Along with singing and songwriting, the talented artist is working towards her master’s degree in occupational therapy. She is currently completing her clinical rotation in the ICU, where she will spend most of her time during the Christmas season.

“I will be spending the holidays in New York City,” she shares. “People who are in the ICU still need care and extra TLC, especially during the holiday season, so I’ll be working holidays in NYC and come New Year, I’ll go home and see family.”

Oh her busy lifestyle, she admits, “I don’t know how I do it. But I have the best support system — my family, my friends, and my boyfriend. I think being a student and a musician at the same time has made me a better person, songwriter, and performer. It keeps me grounded.”

Friendships that support and ground Landin will be the lyrical backbone of her upcoming five-track EP, which is slated to arrive in 2026.

“In this season of life that I’ve been in these past two years, I feel like it was my friends and family that were anchoring me down and holding me up and allowing me to grow,” Landin says. “So this EP is dedicated to them. There are homages to all of those people that I think always don’t get the airtime with the heartbreak that the boys get. So I wanted to pay tribute to them and to the season of life that I’m in.”

Before then, fans can look for her next track to debut in December, one that offers a different tone in contrast to “Same Coast.”

“I think that this song is the uptempo, we’re starting football season, it’s very much reminiscing on how summer is wrapping up and heading into fall. The song coming in December is about my brother, and it’s one of the most grounded and authentic songs that I’ve ever written….” she teases. “If ‘Same Coast’ is about friends who share your memories, this one is about siblings who share your story.”

“I could not be more proud of all the songs that are going to be on this project,” Landin continues. “I think that it truly is a really special collection of songs that tell a story that I’m hoping will touch people on a deep and personal level.”

For Landin, 2026 promises to be a turning point.

“I’ll be done with my program and ready to lean into music full-time,” she says. “I want to grow my team, bring on a manager, and hopefully open for another artist on tour. I’ve given 100% to music—but next year, I’m giving another 100%.”

“Same Coast” makes its radio debut today on both WSM in Nashville and New York’s Country 94.7, with Landin joining WSM for a live interview ahead of her performance at the Opry Plaza tomorrow at 5:15 p.m.

Fans can keep up with Brett Landin on Instagram. “Same Coast” is available to stream everywhere, including Apple Music and Spotify.
