Warren Easton and Edna Karr airs at midnight on the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Longtime rivals Warren Easton and Edna Karr face off in a District 9-5A matchup Friday night on the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network.

Kickoff from Morris F.X. Jeff Stadium begins at 7 p.m., with coverage on CCS beginning at 6:50. Lenny Vangilder and John Ehret head coach Willie Brooks will describe the action.

The broadcast will also air on the Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network at midnight Saturday as part of a new partnership with CCS due to the New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs game airing at 7 p.m.

The annual matchup regularly produces a talented array of college prospects, and Friday night will be no exception.

When the Easton offense goes against the Karr defense, fans will see three LSU commitments on the field: Karr defensive lineman Richard Anderson and safety Aiden Hall and Easton offensive lineman Jalan Chapman.

Karr (7-0 overall, 4-0 in 9-5A) is the consensus top-ranked team in Louisiana and is ranked ninth in the latest MaxPreps national top 25. The Cougars have won 21 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Easton (3-4, 0-4) enters the week at No. 22 in the Division I Select power rankings. The top 24 teams advance to the playoffs.

The rivalry between the Cougars and Fighting Eagles reached the summit in 2018 and 2019 when the teams faced off in back-to-back seasons for the Class 4A state championship. Karr won a pair of tightly contested matchups, 28-20 in 2018 and 35-34 in 2019, capping a run of four consecutive titles for Brice Brown’s teams.

That was part of a four-year run from 2017-20 in which the schools faced off eight times on the gridiron: four times in the regular season, twice in title games and twice in state semifinals.

Though the Cougars have won the last 13 meetings on the field, five of the games have been decided by eight points or less.

The Crescent City Sports team is in its 15th season of producing live broadcasts for television and internet, having produced nearly 600 live streams since 2012, and is continuing its extensive commitment to prep sports coverage on its website for 2025-26.
