Actors Rudy Mancuso and Camila Mendes, a couple both onscreen and off, just made it official.
They’re headed down the aisle.
“Engaged to my best friend,” Mendes, 31, said on Instagram Saturday, sharing photos from the proposal.
Mancuso, 33, who grew up in Glen Ridge, starred with Mendes in his feature directorial debut, the New Jersey-set “Música,” which premiered on Amazon last year. The actors met working on the film.
Mancuso also plays Capt. Pauly Russo, a 1960s airman in the new HBO series “It: Welcome to Derry,” premiering Sunday.
He popped the question Friday at party attended by the couple’s family and friends.
Mendes and Mancuso, who have been dating since 2022, entered a curtained corner of the party framed by draped white curtains and white flowers for the photo op. They embraced after Mendes said “yes,” sharing the happy news with party guests.
And yes, the proposal was a surprise.
“She thought she was going to a birthday party for producing partner Rachel Matthews, but it was a surprise engagement party instead,” a source told People. “Rudy proposed to her in front of their family and friends.”
Mendes plays Mancuso’s love interest, Isabella, in “Música,” for which she also served as an executive producer.
Mancuso stars in the film as “Rudy Mancuso” in a romantic tale and ode to creativity inspired by his own life and experiences with synesthesia.
The movie, which Mancuso co-wrote with Dan Lagana, follows a street performer and puppeteer who hears music everywhere, including in everyday sounds. Mancuso was both composer and choreographer on the innovative musical film.
Both Mendes and Mancuso are of Brazilian American heritage.
“Música,” which is set in the Brazilian community of Newark’s Ironbound, filmed in the Ironbound as well as Mancuso’s Glen Ridge and Kearny, Hoboken, Paramus, Chatham Township, Montclair, Harrison, Clifton and East Orange.
Mancuso also appeared in the DC movie “The Flash.”
Mendes, who grew up in Georgia and Florida, is known for playing Veronica Lodge in the CW series “Riverdale.”
Her other film credits include “Palm Springs” (2020), “Do Revenge” (2022) and “Upgraded” (2024).
