Meghan Markle may now be recognized globally as the American actress who wed Prince Harry, but the Royal ceremony wasn’t her inaugural trip down the aisle. Prior to her romance with Prince Harry, which allegedly commenced in 2016, Meghan had previously been wed to an American.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, tied the knot with American film producer Trevor Engelson in August 2011 after encountering him at a bar when she was merely 23 years old. Their bond was thought to have remained strong for several years despite the fact that they split just two years following their nuptials.
While limited information is publicly available regarding the intricacies of their union, certain details have previously emerged about their ceremony, which received brief coverage from the Hollywood Reporter due to Meghan’s part in US drama Suits. It comes as the mom-of-two had her fans united as she shared a cryptic new video.
Nevertheless, while Meghan wasn’t particularly renowned at the time, she allegedly made a rigid demand of attendees at her initial wedding, which was received with some humor.
In her publication The Palace Papers, Tina Brown cited a guest who was present at the 2011 ceremony, reports the Express.
According to Brown’s reporting, the attendee stated, “The only jarring note is that Meghan sent out a note requesting ‘no social media, please’.
“We were all laughing because she had been on Suits for a few months and at that point, we were like, is she kidding me? She was like, ‘I’m a really big actress’.”
Meghan and Trevor parted ways in 2013 due to “irreconcilable differences”, with their divorce reaching completion in 2014. Meghan Markle walked down the aisle to marry Prince Harry in Windsor four years later, after a whirlwind romance that led her to leave her role on Suits to wed the youngest son of King Charles.
The pair had been dating for less than two years when Harry proposed at their Kensington Palace residence, with their nuptials taking place less than a year afterward.
Despite being warmly welcomed into the Royal Family, Meghan’s tenure as a working Royal was short-lived. Both she and Harry stepped back from their Royal duties in 2020 and relocated to Montecito, California.
Since then, the Duchess of Sussex has been forging her own path, launching a podcast series, starting a business, and even securing deals with streaming powerhouses like Netflix.
