Everyone’s favorite Yellowstone creator is set to switch gears in a major way.

Taylor Sheridan has closed a long-term film and television deal with NBCUniversal, outlets including Deadline reported on Sunday, Oct. 26.

The massive five-year overall deal for film, TV and streaming will begin on Jan. 1, 2029 after Sheridan’s overall TV deal with Paramount ends, which goes through 2028.

Also moving to NBCUniversal is Sheridan’s close collaborator David Glasser and his 101 Studios, Deadline noted.

The surprising move comes amid a new era in talent wars that began with Skydance’s recent acquisition of Paramount Global. In one of the combined company’s first major moves, it poached Stranger Things creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer from their longtime Netflix home with a similarly huge film and television deal.

Sheridan, 55, is one of the industry’s biggest talents, having conceived the Yellowstone universe, its spinoffs, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown. A-listers including Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Sam Elliott and Jeremy Renner have graced his work over the years.

His NBCUniversal deal is expected to be a rich one, as The Hollywood Reporter noted, though he will have to create wholly new IP when he does make the jump in a few years.

As is typical in these deals, Paramount owns Yellowstone and the other franchises he has created for that company. Still, Sheridan’s programming has become a dramatic backbone of the Paramount+ streaming platform, and will likely continue to be for years to come.

In other Sheridan news, it was revealed earlier this month that Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña are confirmed to return for season 3 of Lioness on Paramount+. Both actresses take on the added role of executive producer for the show, which is a a fact-based drama series about two agents in a U.S. undercover female operative program.
