June Lockhart’s Former Costars Pay Tribute Post-Death at 100

June Lockhart, recognized for her work in Lassie and Lost in Space, recently died at the age of 100. News of her demise saddened the entertainment industry, with several of her costars paying tribute to her. Before her death, Lockhart enjoyed a nearly 90-year career that made her one of the surviving actors of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

June Lockhart passes away at 100

June Lockhart died of natural causes on October 23, 2025, at her home in Santa Monica, California. Lockhart’s daughter, June Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Christianna, were reportedly by her side at the time of her death.

A private funeral service has been planned. Moreover, her family has encouraged donations to The Actors Fund, ProPublica, and International Hearing Dog, Inc., instead of sending flowers.

Lockhart was born on June 25, 1925, in New York City to actors Gene and Kathleen Lockhart. She made her stage debut at 8 years old with the Metropolitan Opera production of Peter Ibbetson. Her film debut came in 1938 with A Christmas Carol, which starred her parents. She subsequently had supporting parts in films like Meet Me in St. Louis and The Yearling. Lockhart also had a major role in Son of Lassie and a leading part in She-Wolf of London. Further, she appeared in several Western television shows like Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, and Have Gun – Will Travel.

Lockhart became widely recognized for her performances as Ruth Martin in Lassie between 1958 and 1964 and Dr. Maureen Robinson in Lost in Space between 1965 and 1968. Additionally, she had recurring/guest roles on Petticoat Junction, General Hospital, Beverly Hills 90210, and Grey’s Anatomy.

She is the recipient of two Emmy Award nominations — one for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series for Lassie — and a Tony Award. Further, she holds the distinction of being one of the few entertainers with more than one Hollywood Walk of Fame star, one for motion pictures and one for television.

June Lockhart’s costars pay tribute

Several of June Lockhart’s costars have paid tribute to her following her demise. Jon Provost, who played Lockhart’s on-screen adoptive son in Lassie, Timmy Martin called her “a true professional, with a kind heart and an open mind,” on a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Lost in Space’s Bill Mumy called her “a one of a kind, talented, nurturing, adventurous, and non-compromising Lady” on the social media site. He added that she would be one of his “very favorite moms.”

Further, Angela Cartwright, who worked with Lockhart on Lost in Space, called the latter “so smart, quick, and funny.” She added that she would cherish the time they spent together on and off set.
