CLEVELAND — Winter is around the corner, and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is already gearing up for the season by announcing the return of its Wild Winter Lights for the seventh year in a row.

What You Need To Know

  • This year, Wild Winter Lights will feature more than 1.5 million lights
  • There will be several themed areas to explore
  • A new 5K offers visitors the chance to wear their most festive attire to race through the zoo

Starting in November, visitors can witness more than 1.5 million lights to celebrate the holiday season.

There will be several attractions to explore, including an immersive trail that offers multiple holiday-themed areas, including Colorful Forest, Magical Storybook, Glittering Galaxy, Swan Lake, Frosty Lane presented by Meijer, the Conservation Trail and Santa’s North Pole Lodge.

Guests can choose to either experience the lights on foot or by using the drive-thru option with their cars.

“Wild Winter Lights is a cherished tradition that brings our community together to celebrate the season in a truly magical way,” said Kelly Manderfield, Cleveland Metroparks chief marketing officer. “This year’s event is brighter and more festive than ever, with new displays and returning favorites sure to make memories bright. We are incredibly grateful to our presenting and community partners who make this event possible.”

Along with the themed areas, there will also be a 50-foot holiday tree, free carousel rides, model train displays and season treats from Jack Frost Donuts, Kernels by Chrissie and hot chocolate.

However, there is a new event this year that offers a challenge. The zoo will host an Ugly Sweater 5K presented by CrossCountry Mortgage Sunday, Dec. 7. The race starts at 8:30 a.m., and runners and walkers are encouraged to wear their most festive attire. Pre-registration is $30, which includes a finisher medal, a T-shirt and admission to the zoo after crossing the finish.

Wild Winter Lights will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on select evenings from Nov. 18 to Dec. 30. Tickets can be found here.
