Here’s what you need to know about the latest bestseller-to-streamer translation ahead of the show’s debut.
What is Little Disasters about?
You’ve heard of enemies-to-lovers narratives? Little Disasters charts a friends-to-enemies arc. As the story opens, four close pals — Jess (Kruger), Liz (Joyner), Charlotte (Conn), and Mel (Taafe) — are celebrating 10 years of friendship after they met as expectant mothers. But that relationship is ruptured when Jess rushes her young to daughter to the ER with a serious cranial condition. Liz is the on-call doctor and is disturbed by her friend’s inability to clearly outline what happened. Following regulations, she picks up the phone to call social services… and that results in a wave of consequences that washes a decade-long friendship away.
Who is involved?
Little Disasters was adapted for streaming by journalist-turned-screenwriter Ruth Fowler and TV scribe Amanda Duke. BAFTA-nominated director Eva Sigurðardóttir helmed all six episodes. Besides the core quartet, the cast includes JJ Field, Ben Bailey Smith, Patrick Baladi, and Stephen Campbell Moore. Vaughn is also involved in the TV version of her book as an executive producer.
What other bestseller adaptations can I stream this fall?
‘Tis the season for streaming adaptations of popular novels. Down Cemetery Road starring Emma Thompson premieres on Apple TV on Oct. 29; and All Her Fault with Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning debuts on Peacock on Nov. 6.
