The actress behind Terrifier’s most iconic and gruesome death scene, Catherine Corcoran, filed a lawsuit against the producers and director with a range of claims.

Catherine Corcoran, who starred as Dawn in Terrifier, filed a lawsuit against producer Phil Falcone and series director Damien Leone.

The actress, 33, accused the team of breach of contract, the distribution of sexually explicit materials without consent, and five additional claims. Plus, Corcoran named production companies Leone’s Dark Age Cinema, Fuzz on the Lens Productions, and Art the Clown LLC, according to court documents obtained by the Mirror US.

In the film series, which Corcoran claimed was incredibly low budget, partygoers find themselves the target of a serial killer called Art the Clown, a reoccurring character from a variety of media. Dawn is the first dead in the series, found suspended upside-down by her sister, who wakes up tied to a chair by Art. The film is among some of the most beloved in the Halloween slasher genre.

However, Corcoran claimed the death scene didn’t quite go down as she imagined. After all, she was naked in the clip, but claimed the production team did not go through the proper channels for authorization. Corcoran alleged they did not get her written consent to the nudity, which is required by the Screen Actors Guild.

According to Corcoran, she asked to wear underwear, but ultimately was still topless. Between shooting takes, Corcoran allegedly found it difficult to cover up with the sole blanket provided since it became dampened with fake blood as “overtime the blanket became so saturated with fake blood that it ceased providing any warmth,” according to the court documents, as she allegedly filmed upside down for “over 10 hours in below freezing temperatures.”

Moreover, Corcoran’s lawsuit came with financial allegations as well, including alleging the movie’s team profited off her nude body in merch sales. She alleged the initial offer on the movie included an “extremely low up front per diem rate,” but she agreed under the condition that she would receive 1% of profits. However, she claimed over the years her royalties “became more and more sporadic and dwindled to amounts nowhere near commensurate,” ending in July 2024.

The franchise, which includes the original movie and two sequels, grossed $105 million at global box office. However, Corcoran claimed to only have snagged about $1,816 in film-royalties and $6,408 in merch-royalties. Corcoran said she only agreed to the per diem rate to “accommodate the film’s ultra-low budget.”

However, the financial nature of the movie soon became an obstacle. The lawsuit stated, “This case presents an all-too-common story of low budget film producers taking advantage of a young actress through fraud, sexual harassment and, ultimately, betrayal.”

In addition to the before-mentioned claims, Corcoran sued for promissory fraud, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, common counts (money had and received), and concerns regarding accounting.

The Mirror US contacted representatives for Corcoran, Leone, Falcone, and Fuzz on the Lens Productions for comment.
