- The conversation-starter game includes 120 cards spread out across three difficulty levels.
- A Canadian DJ has released a new music-focused card game, Offffff the Record.
Invented by the Toronto-based, Egypt-born producer Shen, Offffff the Record is a conversation-starter game that aims to foster dialogue across genre and level of expertise.
No scorekeeping or numbers-based competition is involved in the gameplay, but the 120-card deck is split into three “levels.” Level One is “for the casuals,” and features easy, broad prompts to warm up to. Level Two is “for the heads,” and goes a bit deeper into different niches. Finally, Level Three is for “the creators and cultural workers,” and includes questions that address “big-picture conversations for artists, DJs and cultural observers.”
According to Shen, the idea for Offffff The Record—which also encompasses a branded event series and radio show on Community Service Radio—came to him on the way to meet a friend he’d bonded with over a shared taste in music.
“I wished there was a game that would have us trading songs and stories for hours,” Shen told Resident Advisor. I started writing a few questions that day and a year and a half later, they became Offffff The Record. I want people to feel what I feel when I DJ: that rush of seeing someone love a song you showed them.”
The game, which retails for $27.00, is currently available for purchase via a dedicated website, and select Toronto shops. Find out more here.
