Bad Bunny’s shoe game just got even better. The Puerto Rican singer, who’s had a longstanding partnership with Adidas, has collaborated with the athletic wear brand on more than 115 sneaker designs over the years—of which only over a dozen have been released—but yesterday, he stepped out in his first-ever signature sneaker, the Adidas BadBo 1.0, set to hit the shelves very soon.
The shoe in question is a chunky powder-brown suede sneakers with white leather accents. The “NUEVAYoL” singer—real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio—debuted his shoe in Miami, and wore it with a boxy light-gray hoodie that featured Adidas’s signature three stripes in white running down the arms. For bottoms, he slipped on some matching baggy sweatpants.
Bunny was pictured in the Florida city with soccer legend Lionel Messi. The two are set to star in an Adidas ad ahead of the World Cup.
Messi looked cool in a black athleisure set—composed of a striped bomber jacket and cargo shorts—from an unreleased Messi x Kith Adidas collection. He styled the co-ord with a classic white T-shirt and white Adidas Sambas, each with blue stripes, yellow laces, and a red accent on the back.
Messi’s nostalgic set offers a fresh take on the old-school aesthetic currently trending with soccer-inspired street style. Thomas Mace, the vice president of design at Adidas Football, tells Harper’s Bazaar that while soccer has been shaping style and culture across Europe for decades, the sport’s influence in fashion across the world has risen over the last couple of years. Just look at Rosalía’s soccer cleat heels, Rihanna’s sports jerseys (which she often styles with layers of diamonds), and Zoë Kravitz’s athletic shorts worn with peep-toe heels.
“It’s been blowing up,” Mace says, “and I would argue it comes a little bit from Adidas, because we’ve got a rich and diverse history when it comes to football culture.” The “bring-backs,” or modern renditions of vintage staples—including team anniversary jerseys—are especially appealing to young consumers, he notes.
